Local packaging company Lindum Packaging contracted Torr Engineering to refit their newly expanded office space with energy efficient air conditioning to provide both cooling and heating.
The chosen equipment was a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries multi split inverter condenser, which has the capacity to run 6 individual indoor wall mounted fan coil units.
The condensing unit was mounted inside the warehouse with a drip tray and and tank pump to remove all condensate. Condensate was then pumped around the warehouse wall to an external drain.
We always try to use gravity drainage where we can but on some installations it’s just not possible and pumps have to be used.
The obvious advantage with gravity drainage is that there are no mechanical or electrical parts required so there is a reduced change of breakdowns and drainage issues.
Where pumps are used, as long as they are part of a regular maintenance regime, they should provide many years of reliable service.
The main upstairs office space was opened up from individual rooms to provide an open plan layout.
2 x 2.5kW indoor units supplied all the cooling and heating needs of the room.
The room did have a traditional wet system of radiators which were turned off as the air conditioning units were faster and more efficient at heating up the room in winter.
Interconnecting pipework, cabling and drainage ran on cable tray up the inside of the warehouse wall.

The small condenser above the Mitsubishi unit was installed by others and fed a server room.
We removed the condenser and re-installed it properly as it was originally a DIY install and had several metres of excess pipework coiled up behind the condenser.
